The Saint Germain quarter of Paris' left bank is drenched in philosophy and intellectualism thanks to high-brow residents such as Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Simone De Beauvoir frequenting the numerous bars and coffee shops that lined its decaying streets. Skip forward a few decades and now a firm favourite amongst Paris' cultured, jet setting bon vivants and stylish gastronomes, Sir Terrance Conran's restaurant Mezzanine De L'Alcazar sits comfortably in revitalized, modern day Saint German.
In a city famed for gourmet dining, Mezzanine De L'Alcazar is Paris' destination restaurant: the place to see and be seen in, largely due to Sir Terence Conran's exquisite taste and flair for design. As the leading British designer of his generation's, his trademark elegance and fastidious attention to detail is apparent throughout his empire, and nowhere is this craftsmanship more apparent than at Mezzanine. Conran has transformed the former 17th century Royal Tennis Court and cross-dressing cabaret venue, into a split-level restaurant complete with a 12-metre glass roof that bathes Mezzanine De L’Alcazar in light, air and space.
Dining at Mezzanine De L'Alcazar is a multi-sensory experience: classic French-Mediterranean and English cuisine with a twist that whets the palate and sparks your senses while exhibitions from world-renowned artists act as an ideal visual accompaniment.
CD1 is a collection of some of the finest downtempo and leftfield cuts from the past 10 years. Chungking's 'Full On', Mr Scruff', The Cinematric Orchestra have all been firm favourites spun at the restaurant during daytime service and early evening drinks. DJ Food's 'Turtle Soup' is an eclectic fave as is the Dynamic's reggae inspired cover of 'Miss You' by The Rolling Stones. CD1 end with Leo Zero’s fantastic low slung disco rework of pop princess Florence & The Machine.
CD2 is a sumptuous flow of soulful and mellow house, touching on brand new deep house releases and classics. The brand new Normalites re-work of The Beloved's 'Sun Rising' sits comfortably next to new tracks from Yass, DJ Spen, and classics from Jon Cutler, King Britt, Julien Jabre and Danism perfectly together.
