2009 was a truly phenomenal year for Dutch artist and Flamingo Records head honcho Fedde Le Grand. With a glittering career that includes worldwide number ones, A-list collaborations, tours in every continent, a raft of International awards and a debut artist album 'Output' that hit over 60 countries worldwide, it was a year that cemented his reputation as one of the most forward-thinking, in-demand, creative forces in Dance Music. Renowned for his global hits 'Put Your Hands Up for Detroit', 'Let Me Think About It', 'The Creeps' and '3 Minutes to Explain', Fedde set all of clubland on fire and stamped his name all over the global music charts. Weighty remixes include Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am, Fatboy Slim and Madonna (who used 'Put Your Hands Up…' to promote her Sticky and Sweet tour).

Since the early days his more stripped-down production had won him an elite group of fans, allowing him to experiment with a darker, more minimal Tech House sound. His pseudonym F.L.G. continues this and saw tracks 'Amplified' and 'Pink Bird' on Toolroom Records become anthems on the Underground scene, but this wasn't Fedde's first release on the label. 'Just Trippin' was a massive release that cemented Fedde's association with Toolroom at an early stage. With Fedde working more closely with Toolroom in 2010, he seemed an obvious choice to continue the Toolroom Knights series and kick start the New Year with a very definite bang.

Fedde's Toolroom Knights reflect his world famous DJ sets and explores his versatility as both producer and DJ with CD1 mixed under his F.L.G. moniker and CD2 as Fedde Le Grand. CD1 is deeper and stripped back, laying a distinctive groove in preparation for the more uplifting tones of CD2. Including an exclusive track written by Fedde, namely 'An Old Technique', CD1 includes tracks from Solomun, Noir, Saeed Younan, Joey Negro & Mark Mendes. CD2 kick starts into full on Fedde Le Grand mode with Ntfo's 'Filter' and Steve Bug's 'Swallowed Too Much Bass' before moving onto Johnstar's 'Tick Tock Track', another exclusive on the compilation. Weaving through big room favourites 'My Friend' by Nicky Romero, Marcus Kaes new Flamingo release 'Do Bing' and the massive Fatboy Slim vs. Fedde le Grand - Praise You 2009, CD2 certainly reflects Fedde Le Grand's style.

The omnipotent, historic and rejuvenated US house label Strictly Rhythm has always had a reputation for delivering quality mixes and the freshest upfront tracks. Now in its 20th year the label has earmarked the producers, DJs and international events that can continue to deliver its universal sound into the next decade.
The biggest event in the House calendar is the annual Miami Winter Music conference that occurs every March. This undoubtedly remains the epicentre of the House scene, continuing to be the place where the world gets a glimpse of the new emerging artists and tracks that will become the staple food of every reputable DJ internationally.

This year it is the turn of house legend Karizma and new blood Eddie Thoneick to select the tracks and skilfully join the beats that will ultimately reflect the sound of the conference.

Karizma is the adept Baltimore bred US house DJ that has set the standard for many over the past decade. He remains one of the most in demand DJs on the house circuit and was formerly part of the renowned Basement Boys with DJ Spen and Teddy Douglas. Now an uber successful producer in his own right and a leader in the US house scene, he was an ideal choice to put together Strictly's Miami mix. This fluid mix features many of his own productions including; 'Kaytro' inspired by his own alter ego Kaytronik, as well as his track with Monique Bingham 'Good Morning' and Groove A 'K' Ordingly (Kaytronik Groove Da Dub). Here his signature style is evident, super creative, making full use of the technology available to him, skilfully cutting from track to track. His mix moves from vocal to tough, demonstrating his versatility.

CD2 introduces us Eddie Thoneick who delivers a very different second mix. Again like Karizma he is dextrous in his production and mixing technique. Eddie takes us on a tougher, peak time trip. 人类真是种古怪的生物，对记忆总有着股无法忘怀的执念。比利时才子Dieter Sermeus化名的The Go Find，六年来便透过音乐的型态和诠释，让我们这些在回忆中流连忘返的人们，不断沉醉于那飘散着轻盈惆怅感的美好世界，而我们初次透过他那宛如 Kings Of Convenience与The Postal Service的清新音符品尝青春的眷恋时，他也不过是个未满三十岁的大男孩。

早期所属乐队Orange Black曾为Pavement、Stereolab暖场的Dieter Sermeus，2004年在好友Styrofoam（Arne Van Petegem）引荐下，加入德国Indie Electronic名厂Morr Music，开始化名The Go Find发表作品，并逐渐由一人编制，发展为今日的完整乐队，但The Go Find以Synthpop旋律和清新吉他编织起的复古小浪漫，青涩、稚气的平实恬淡，始终宛如青春最原初、纯粹的气质让人怜惜。

来自丹麦哥本哈根的五人乐队Northern Portrait，成军于2007年夏季，两个月后迅速获美国独立厂牌Matinée网罗，次年一连发表《Fallen Aristocracy》和《Napoleon Sweetheart》两张好评E.P.，受邀英国、美国与欧洲各地巡回，即便每每令人联想起The Smiths，乐队灵魂人物Stefan Larsen却表示开始玩音乐时根本不知The Smiths为何方神圣，而初闻这影响随后二十余年摇滚乐发展的经典声音时，甚至并不喜欢，反而更钟情于Pulp、The Beatles、Frank Sinatra以及左右其吉他编排的Suede。

将自己的音乐称为“sophisticated guitar pop”的Northern Portrait，以这张处女作《Criminal Art Lovers》企图完成那被其定义为踩在流行与独立暧昧界线上的音乐概念，两张E.P.中仅选入〈Crazy〉一曲，于浓郁八O 年代英伦吉他摇滚气息中，铺上一层清新的惆怅感，〈The Operation Worked but the Patient Died〉让人彻底臣服的悠扬美丽，〈Murder Weapon〉轻盈的Jangle Pop旋律，亦或〈That’s When My Headaches Begin〉里头抑郁低迷的优雅自溺，不断用无所不在的C86声响和花草气息，编织着属于Northern Portrait独有的苍白甜美，更进一步证明自己绝非依附The Smiths盛名而来的投机份子。

过去十余年来因毒品不断进出监狱，让曾被冠上“说唱艺术教父”“黑人版鲍伯迪伦”头衔的音乐先锋Gil Scott-Heron，与音乐工业渐行渐远，而其作品的影响力却在这些日子不断发酵，于叱吒流行市场的Neo Soul和嘻哈类型中发光发热。

回顾七O至八O年代，身兼音乐人、诗人、作家、激进主义分子等多重身分的Gil Scott-Heron，与音乐搭档Brian Jackson驾驭着灵魂、爵士、蓝调等音乐元素，以十足折衷色彩打造出神采飞扬媲美Marvin Gaye和Curtis Mayfield的浪漫灵魂韵律，同时用蕴含丰富政治社会意识的词意，完美勾勒着那个时代骚动不安而悲观的氛围，不论从任何角度切入，都有着无法动摇的音乐巨人地位。

2005年，英伦独立名厂XL老板Richard Russell透过书信辗转联络上Gil Scott-Heron，亲赴美国与这位当时正在服刑的传奇人物见面，并于2007年亲自投身其专辑制作，随后交出这张关于爱、悔恨、救赎与孤寂的新作。散发著美丽而伤感秋意的《I'm New Here》中，个人化而强烈的自省性格，与他过往作品激进政治诉求划出了鲜明的分野，但音乐态度上，却依旧展现一贯惊人活力，不仅扬起浓郁的trip- hop烟硝，更以翻唱曲、原创作品与自白录音交错，结构起勾勒其近年生命历程图像的概念性作品。

Indonesia's Dira J Sugandi made big headlines when she performed with Jason Mraz and Incognito at the Java Jazz Festival 2009. From a fan into a future star describes her journey so far by her producer Bluey after a band member gave her a microphone to sing at that concert. Now Dira is now involved in many Incognito concerts as one of the vocalists. She has also performed live with other acts, including the Yellow Jackets, Keith Martin, and the aforementioned with Jason Mraz (see them live together on YouTube).

Her debut album "Something About The Girl" is written and produced by Bluey with members of Incognito and one special guest, British soul star Omar. The album, with 11 songs, is a stylish and refreshing blend of R&B mixed with acid jazz, soulful house and bossa flavors, part of which was also recorded in Jakarta. Bluey brought Incognito collaborators Matt Cooper, Richard Bull, Simon Cotsworth and Ski Oakenful into the project, along with Dira's favourite male vocalist, Omar from the UK, to do a duet with her.

After raising the bar to unprecedented heights in 2009 with Joris Voorn and Will Saul's stunning additions to the series, EQ Recordings' Balance series returns for the new decade with yet another standard-setting mix from one of the most sophisticated and inspiring names in techno: Agoria.

The man otherwise known as Sebastien Devaud wasn’t bitten by the dance music bug until he was out of his teens, but once he began hunting imported 12"s from the US and Germany in his native France, there was no turning back. His production career began in 1999, with his debut album Blossom and first compilation following in 2003 - and it was clear even in those early days that a serious new talent was emerging. Blending the throb and groove of deeper, stripped-back techno with a keen sense of musicality, emotion and atmosphere, his is a sound that transcends beyond mere dancefloor disposability.

Agoria explains his intention for this intricate compilation: "The concept of both CDs is all about balance. Literally. In my mind a balance is not a middle position; it's a perfect equilibrium. I'm trying to be as close as possible to this idea. I have tried to find this fine line where the balance is just right." To accomplish this perfectly-weighted contrast, he's cherry-picked from a myriad of genres and subgenres in his "beat open-minded" fashion, combining a wealth of material from newcomers across the spectrum (including no less than 12 exclusives) with more established producers, classics and unknown gems from his broad musical past, and put it all together in an unconventional, challenging manner. "In the end, more than a DJ compilation, this is a manifesto of my passion for music and for mixing" he explains.

Disc 1 casts Agoria not simply as a functional dancefloor engineer, but as a musical craftsman, an arranger, a conductor. It's the sound DJing evolved - the art of composition, contrast and texture, toying with your emotion and patience and pushing and pulling your attention in different directions. We begin all beatless and atmospheric, moving through the Viennese downtempo beauty of Tosca and the haunting acoustic pop of Emiliana Torrini and onwards into Agoria's own blend of operatics and deep electronica on Altre Voci. Glimpse's Train In Austria Pt.2 catches us off guard with its intense emotion, before the helmsman ushers us unexpectedly towards organic instrumentation and disco grooves, all warm and familiar after the heady electronics that went before. A delicate, blessed-out climax lays the mix down to rest.

Disc 2 sees Agoria go for the 4/4 jugular, with more of the trademark sound that he is recognised for. But it's not quite as simple as that. Even more so than on the first mix, he combines and sequences tracks in every different way, splicing several together, reintroducing the same track twice or four times, comparing and contrasting different flavours. "I thought that to find the right balance, I needed to use all the ways of mixing. Editing tracks but also letting entire tracks play. Playing 3 or 4 times the same tracks, or spinning some for just a few seconds. Loopy or not. Exclusive, classic or covers, bizarre or easy listening, happy or trippy. 4 tracks together or just one. Loosing the listener for a minute to re-catch him the minute after. Spinning a classical music work of Jonny Greenwood at the peak time. Going up and then down. Starting and finishing with the same tracks.” Familiar names like Marc Antona, Chris Carrier and Mark Broom supply a steady throb of techno and tech house rhythms - melody percolating the mix at the right moments - leading up to a dreamy, euphoric climax, laden with the joyous pianos of Serge Santiago's re-rub of Shit Robot and Martyn's heavenly reworking of Efdemin. Two sumptuous vocal tracks round off this incredible oeuvre, the perfect finale to bring the mix back down to earth after some epic peaks.

This superb compilation is as deep and rewarding as a well-woven novel, the dénouement of the story unfolding as the mix evolves through Agoria's musical DNA. Yet another essential addition to the compilation series that is fast becoming the new benchmark for ambitious DJs and demanding listeners alike.

Curtis James Jackson III (born July 6, 1977) better known by his stage name 50 Cent, is an American rapper. Born in South Jamaica, Queens, Jackson began drug dealing at the age of twelve during the 1980s crack epidemic. After releasing his album Guess Who's Back? in 2002, Jackson was discovered by rapper Eminem and signed to Interscope Records. Oriental Garden, the essential compilation album series of true World parties and top-notch music fans, presents a musical mélange of catchy, powerful and intoxicating cultural crossover albums that offer a soundtrack for a genuine oriental-around-the-world experience since the beginning of 2000s. The new born double CD compilation album Oriental Garden Vol.7, just like the previous six, carries DJ Gülbahar Kültür's mark, rightfully famed as the DJ of Global Beats for inventively and seamlessly shifting between genres and cultural traditions.

Tarab is what the first CD is called, revealing its oriental-ethereal character: it is the Arabic word for "being drunk by music". The opening song on Tarab is surely a big surprise; an oriental saturated version of Johann Sebastian Bach's delightful "Erbarme Dich Mein Gott" performed by twice Grammy nominated collective Sarband, Fadia El-Hage, Modern String Quartett and Vladimir Ivanoff. In the album, Serbia and Montenegro's 2004 Eurovision Song contestant Zeljko Joksimovic performs the same song he presented to become the second in the Contest: "Lane moje"; and Rachid Taha, the darling inventor of Rock n' Raï attitude, once again sings an absolutely enticing song "Mabrouk Aalik". So does Samia Farah, the French-Tunisian singer, song-writer, producer and designer in "Si t'as la parole". Smadj, Talvin Singh and Erik Truffaz come together in a beautiful, dreamy love song: "Je t'aprendrai l'amour". Featured in Tarab CD of Oriental Garden Vol.7, Bam Session, Narin Feqe, Eda Karaytuq, Unkle Ho, Fouxi, Eccodek, Sarazino, Malik Adouane, Ian Simmonds and Nova Emad picture an exhilarating dance session of the tunes that come from the seven seas, revealing the power of melodies beneath cultures and languages.

The second CD is called Markas; the word that refers to "disco" in Arabic. It is a reflection of the Occident-Orient synthesis on the dancefloor, full of non-stop dance tracks to make you show off what you've got. Taking start with Melissa and Dr. Alban's awesome title "Habibi" (Lover), the album delves into the blazing world of oriental spiced international dance groove. Atiye, the Best Turkish Act nominee of 2009 Europe Music Awards excels in "Muamma", where Shamur's "Rock your Body" extends to a delightful Euro-Punjabi interpretation and Shani shakes the world wicked in "Dokhtar Pesarah". Brooklyn Funk Essentials rolls over Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Turkish March" in Dibby Dibby Sound and Shantel, the master of electronically-tweaked Balkan gypsy music outshines with "Fige Ki Ase Me" featuring Greek singer and composer Jannis Karis. "Oye Como Va", Tito Puente's Carlos Santana popularized song is reborn in oriental dressing in the Markas setting of Oriental Garden Vol.7 with Latin Turca. The much loved oriental track "Sidi Mansour Ya Baba" comes in the form of a high-spirited Oriental Hip Hop with Behrang Miri's cover; and "Train to Teheran" by Namito, travels through the very rave you definitely wouldn't want to miss. Elena Risteska, Manel, Don Cali and Lafrotino, Armen Balyan, Melina Aslanidou, Teodora, Cüneyt Cakim, The Spy from Cairo, Speed Caravan and Kasba each has a part in the powerful secret of the album.

由Okkervil River主脑Will Sheff和Jonathan Meiburg共组Shearwater，原先为发表不适合Okkervil River作品的side-project，却一路持续发展，以稳定质量带来三张宛如Nick Drake、Bill Callahan满布田园气息的质朴民谣作品，直到2006年Will Sheff淡出后，乐队重心移至Jonathan Meiburg一人身上，意外开启了Shearwater崭新的一页，以概念性结构和繁复编曲，为《Palo Santo》和《Rock》两张专辑注入绵密史诗气息。

延续前作自然与人类关系的主题，《The Golden Archipelago》再度以令人屏息的美丽音符，描绘其间险峻、美丽而脆弱的种种。这回，Jonathan Meiburg将焦点移至岛屿生活，特地亲身造访加拉巴哥群岛、火地岛、马达加斯加以及诸多不知名的孤岛，混合祖父二次大战期间于南太平洋担任电信员的经历，用11首歌曲勾勒来自11个岛屿的故事，从海岸线的上升到人口外移，以更加完整的概念与纯熟音乐结构，献上至今最令人怦然心动的作品。
